Art at The Met

Art is coming alive at The Met at Boulevard One with the installation of two permanent sculptures by local Denver artist, Reven Marie Swanson.

“Balanced Butterflies” has been installed in the open space area of the North building of The Met.  Artist Reven Marie Swanson’s describes her piece of art as follows, “It’s about balance.  A sculpture depicts the balance of modern technology and Mother Nature.  It presents an evaluation of perspective and observance of how our everyday practices run synonymous with the organic ecological rhythms.”  This piece is an important conversation starter and the artist hopes to inspire stewardship between humans and these amazing creatures.

This three-dimensional sculpture consists of a 48” sphere of butterflies that is suspended in air by three stainless steel posts.  Each individual butterfly is made of kinetic powder coated stainless steel and are  replicas of a native Colorado species including the Double-tail Swallow, Melissa Blue, Copperfield and Blue Crescent.  The butterflies appear to be floating in air and ready to fly off  into another dimension.

Reven’s other sculpture, “Matriarchal Moon Creature” has been installed at the South building of The Met at Boulevard One.  This piece inspires natural harmony, dance and celebration in regard to movement, change, balance and growth.   The artist statement describes this piece as “to speak for the universal woman and attempt to describe the relationship between the natural, instinctual self-alongside the contemporary, modern-day self.”

This sculpture flies high in the air and moves with the rhythms of the wind.  Before residing at The Met, this sculpture had temporary homes South Dakota, Iowa and various places throughout Colorado.  We are so happy she has a permanent home with us at The Met.

These sculptures have added a new dimension of color, life, art and culture to The Met.  We are so excited to welcome them to their new home and to share them with residents of The Met at Boulevard One and the Lowry Neighborhood.
